Suspension of New International Sch

Suspension of New International School Licenses
The Minister of Education issued Decree No. 182 for the year 2016,[1] discontinuing the acceptance of applications for international curricula schools. The decision stated that the discontinuation of granting establishment licenses for new private schools that offer their educational programs in accordance with a variety of international curriculums shall be temporary. It also decreed that the development of new divisions in existing international schools shall be halted until the applications that have already been submitted prior to the issuance of this decree have been examined, and until new rules regulating these kinds of schools have been put in place. Unfortunately, this decision comes as an example of legislation that lacks design or clarity. In light of the deteriorating state of education in Egypt, the ministry should have been working on developing public education, organizing private schools, and solving existing problems, rather than obstructing international schools by issuing a moratorium on granting them new licenses.
